The Alaskan Bush People are always a source of interest for both people who think their show is fake and those who wholeheartedly support their vision and lifestyle in the Alaskan wilderness. But over the years, the family has modernized, popping up on social media and even paid subscription platforms where they connect with fans.

After so many years on the air, it would seem unnecessary for anyone in the family to work a real job, but Rain Brown picked up a surprising side gig that not all her fans are happy about.

What Does Rainy Brown Do For A Living?

The short answer as to what Rain Brown does for a living is that she’s a reality TV star on Alaskan Bush People. Like her siblings, Rainy’s main source of income appears to be payment from the Discovery Channel.

Some of the Browns have dabbled in “real” jobs over the years, though nothing seems to stick for too long. Perhaps most famously, the Browns have helped other locals while living in Alaska, doing side jobs that earn them a bit of extra money.

It would seem that side jobs are unnecessary, however, given that each Brown family member receives a paycheck from Discovery.

Rain’s social media also describes her as an inspirational writer, though it’s unclear what type of writing she produces.

Rainy Brown Picked Up A Side Gig On Cameo

In February 2023, Rainy Brown announced on her Instagram that she was offering subscription perks to her followers. Some followers were not impressed with the announcement, suggesting that Rain already makes enough from Discovery that she shouldn’t have to ask subscribers for monthly contributions.

At the time, some fans stated that Rain’s subscription price was $20 per month for Instagram. By then, Rain had already been on Cameo for about a month. Her Cameo prices vary, with a custom video costing $45, a business video running fans $315, and a private message costing $3.

Other fans speculated that Rain’s separate business ventures meant that Discovery was cutting the family’s contract, though nothing had been announced at the time.

Even if the show ends, it seems that Rain and her siblings have enough notoriety that they could go the same way as other former reality TV families. But it isn’t clear why Discovery would choose to cancel their show, seeing as it’s done so well for so many seasons already.

Yet Rain’s new side gig seems to have a purpose: earning more money. The reality TV personality explained that in February, the anniversary of her dad’s passing, she was donating a percentage of her subscription proceeds to seizure research.

The rest, she explained, would help fund the ranch. Many commenters were unhappy with the fact that Rain was asking for people to pay for exclusive content, which they assumed wouldn’t be any different than what she already posts, or what viewers see on Alaskan Bush People.

Though there are evidently fans who have subscribed and are more than willing to pay to get more insight into Rainy Brown’s life, plenty of critics cropped up, too.

Some accused Rain of being lazy, telling her to get a real job. Others speculated that she didn’t want to actually work, so took the easy way out of asking her followers for money.

Why Is Rain Brown On Cameo?

Fans can only assume that Rainy Brown is on Cameo because she wants to make a bit of extra money. After all, the reality TV star is one of the most private in the Brown family. Her siblings often receive more airtime, and have more to share, such as their marriages (plus relationship drama) and children.

Snowbird’s health issues also dominated much of the family’s 14th season, and while Rain played a part in helping her sister, the focus wasn’t on her.

Fans also don’t know much about Rain’s relationships (if any) or her finances. However, it’s speculated that she doesn’t have a very high net worth. Like other reality personalities, her attempts at the PG-13 subscription model might be a means of expanding her business earnings without signing on for 40 hours a week.

Rainy Brown Is Worth A Few Hundred Thousand Dollars

Although late patriarch Billy Brown was said to have come from a wealthy family, he reportedly lost that when his family passed away, leaving him with nothing.

Billy was proud of his ability to care for his family while living off the land in the Alaskan Bush, and his industrious nature seems to be what led to the family getting their own reality series.

While the family has been on the air for years and earned a decent income during that time, they aren’t making the $500K per episode (or even per season) that they were once rumored to.

Rainy Brown is only worth a few hundred thousand dollars, according to various sources. Some state she is worth $200,000, while others speculate a number closer to $500,000. A few do cite a worth of around $5 million, but it’s unclear where that figure comes from.

Either way, fans would assume that Rain’s income from Discovery Channel would be enough to fund her off-grid lifestyle, but that’s apparently not so.
